Zophar the Naamathite said these words to his suffering friend, Job. While the application fell short, the truth was right on.

And your life will be brighter than the noonday;
its darkness will be like the morning. Job 11:17 ESV

Centuries later, Paul wrote, “For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength” (1 Cor. 1:25 NET).

Zophar’s remarks seek to answer Job when he contemplated going “to the land of utter darkness, like the deepest darkness, and the deepest shadow and disorder, where even the light is like darkness” (10:22).

Again, Zophar didn’t have the right words for the moment, but he did speak truth here. The Christian’s darkest moment is still like the dawn. His hope is never extinguished, his faith impossible to squelch. For all his moans and cries, he knows his God still reigns and cares.

What do you think?
