Whom do you prefer: someone who tells you the truth or someone who tells you what you want to hear? The first probably has your benefit in mind. The second has an agenda and will use you as an object to advance his dark purposes.
Thus Absalom did to all of Israel who came to the king for judgment. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

Absalom spoke what the people wanted to hear and exaggerated his greetings, stroking the people to win their support. After four years, he proclaimed himself king and caused his father, King David, to flee Jerusalem.
Be careful with the one who always takes your side. He is not a friend, but a traitor to the kingdom of God.
Open my eyes, heavenly Father, that I might not be led astray into error by another’s deception.
Hold this thought: A friend speaks truth in your ear, / Not what you want to hear.
