What grace is

Grace-of-GodOver on Reddit the other day, somebody asked what grace is, how it applies, etc., a very general question. Among the many answers, I plopped mine in, rather short and insufficient, but a quick attempt:

There is “true grace” 1Pt 5.12, and false grace. Scripture teaches us the difference. False grace assumes we may ignore God’s commandments, that he will forgive regardless. True grace does not presume.

People had already talked about it being “unmerited favor,” and such like.

What would you tell the person?

  1. I’d probably start with Titus 2:11-12. God’s grace saves, but it also separates – salvation and separation are never far apart (2 Corinthians 6:1, 17-18). Probably a point that would preach well in connection to the reference that you mentioned.

What do you think?
