You say we think that we alone
Will enter heaven’s gates,
As if to us alone had God shown
What final fate awaits.
‘Tis not one schism, with foolish heart,
Against a thousand more;
Christ built one church, from the world apart,
And it has but one door.
All men can read, the Word is clear,
The terms are true and plain;
That man is proud who will not hear,
Who mouths the Name in vain.
Humble they hear with nimble mind,
Obey the Lord’s command;
Because his will the Lord defined,
They know just where they stand.
On God’s good grace can none presume,
He calls to follow his ways;
In heaven’s kingdom there is room
Only for he who obeys.
[…] Yesterday’s poem was done, literally, at the eleventh hour. I’d made a couple of starts throughout the day, but neither developed into anything. With mere minutes remaining before midnight, I finally bopped out five whole stanzas, in traditional form, “We Alone Will Enter Heaven’s Gates.” […]
Catching up on these…in reverse…very good!
🙂 Thanks!
