It would seem that brother B.W. Johnson missed the evangelistic context of Col. 4:5 on “redeeming the time” or “making the most of the opportunities” (NET). He says it means “seeking time to do them good” (my emphasis). He broadens it to good works, but the context is to speaking the gospel. See verse 6.

• This broadening (elsewhere I call it mission creep) is a modern tendency as well. Our mission is one of proclamation, according to Scripture. But we’re teaching kids it’s service projects and emptying the treasury for benevolence. No wonder we stopped growing.

• Having an RSS issue on Forthright Mag, where we inserted some RSS category feeds from the site into the front page. Looks like it may be a theme problem, but it was working earlier. I’m stumped.

• The Missus has made two (count ’em, two) blog posts since our arrival home last Wed. Of course, I did a bit of blackmail, promising her a laptop if she’d start blogging. Made it easy for her, though, since all she has to do to post on Posterous is write and send an email. (Update: Link changed to WP since Posterous died.)

• Our web host has changed comment filters, so I hope no legitimate comments are getting canned. Some items can fall through the cracks when changes are made. And my main Portuguese website disappeared. Where’d it go?

• Looking at some lyrics, the first line of this Joseph Parker hymn excited me, but the ending is a letdown:

God holds the key of all unknown,
And I am glad;
If other hands should hold the key,
Or if He trusted it to me,
I might be sad.

It’s out of copyright, so let’s do a rewrite.

God holds the key of all unknown,
And this my joy;
If other hands should grasp to hold,
Or I to take it be so bold,
We would destroy.

So maybe it’s not an improvement? You decide.

What do you think?
