God lets anyone enter his kingdom, but he doesn’t allow them to come any old way they please.

But when the king came in to see the wedding guests, he saw a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. And he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ But he had nothing to say. Then the king said to his attendants, ‘Tie him up hand and foot and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!’ For many are called, but few are chosen.”
Matthew 22.11-14 NET

To participate in the party without the appropriate clothing means to lack the necessary preparation — faith and obedience — that the Lord requires.

The one who fails to prepare will be speechless when the Judge asks for a reason. For there’s no excuse to justify our lack of righteousness in our life in Christ.

More than accepting God’s invitation, it’s necessary to change our life to conform to his standard.

“God’s invitation is free, but also demanding” (TEB).

Father, prepare me not only to accept, but to live worthily of the gospel.

Hold this thought: At his table the King bids us sit, / Let’s prepare to be worthy and fit.
