Strong winds came in with the rain this afternoon and knocked out the electricity, which returned after some two or three hours. I had others things I could do, but I picked up an old novel and read for a bit. The Missus napped. Then we had supper.
Neighborhood boys were out in the rain playing, stripped down to their bermudas. One kid went in and put on his swim trunks. They got under our front eave, under another house’s gutter spout. They’ll remember those good times.
You can’t really see the rain, but it’s coming down a solid little drizzle. This is the view from our bedroom out toward the common green area of our neighborhood. End of the cul-de-sac can be seen at right. Our property ends at the wall topped by tiles.
When I went to lunch, our padaria (bread store) was closed. I had eaten a piece of toast there between 10-10:30. The lady at the restaurant on the corner said it was full of police around 11:30. Wondered if they’d had a robbery. Wouldn’t be the first time. Still closed as of 1:30 p.m.
Perhaps somebody wanted a different kind of bread — without working for it. Continue reading →
