VERSE — “For you know quite well that the day of the Lord will come in the same way as a thief in the night” 1 Thes 5.2.
MEDITATE — Do we know “quite well” that the day of the Lord will come in this manner? If so, we will be prepared for that day. Let us watch for the coming of the Lord.
PRAY — Come, Lord Jesus! Maranatha!

From meditation to glorification is but a short step. In both a word is spoken. In both God is the focus of thought. In both meaning and purpose are present. Dwell on the goodness and holiness of God and make him the center of all attention. God be praised!

THINK: The perfect love includes one’s enemies, Mt 5.48, but focuses especially on the family of faith. Love is not a feeling, but the decision to do good to a brother. As always, Christ is our example in this. Continue reading
I don’t like surprises. Don’t involve me in some planned activity without first checking with me. I want to know what’s going to happen, well before the time. Tell me beforehand.
Not because the disciples had my personality type, but because they were his friends, Jesus told them what was going to happen. Continue reading

Just in the nick of time. At the right moment. God acts exactly when he should, when things ought to be done, no sooner, no later. In our limited vision, God is often late. Or we think that he jumps the gun. But God is always on time. Continue reading
Some people dislike living by rules. Laws cause them to chafe. They prefer to act by impulse.
Others like rules, but of their own making. Still others latch on to the first authority who will tell them what to believe and what rules to follow. Continue reading
When we decide to do the will of God, as painful or distasteful as it may be, we may be sure of the presence of God’s power.
As you meet together, and I meet with you in my spirit, by the power of our Lord Jesus present with us, you are to hand this man over to Satan for his body to be destroyed, so that his spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord.

Another earthquake in the world yesterday, this time in the eastern U.S., 6.0 on the Richter Scale, happily, with no deaths. Any tremor, and I’ve felt several there and here, reminds us that the earth isn’t exactly terra firma (in Portuguese, that would be terra firme).
However, God’s solid foundation remains standing, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from evil.”
