The speech of the righteous bears the fruit of wisdom,
but the one who speaks perversion will be destroyed.
The lips of the righteous know what is pleasing,
but the speech of the wicked is perverse.
Proverbs 10.31-32 NET
The righteous person uses the right words because he has a relationship with God and ponders how to bless his neighbor’s life.
The world wants to leave the impression that the righteous person is hard, judging others and not being interested in others. The wicked criticize him because he will not participate with them in their perversities.
Actually, the righteous person weighs his words, knows how to express wisdom, and tempers truth by seeking the best way to express it, so that it might be accepted.
The righteous person reconciles the desire to please with the need to confront with the truth.
He speaks wisdom because he hears and keeps God’s word and shares it with others.
He knows how to help others. NLT understand the phrase in verse 32 to mean “speak helpful words.”
The righteous person speaks little and well, choosing his words with care.
