We’ve arrived, but we still have ground to cover. It seems contradictory, but Christians experience this blessed spiritual state.
Finally therefore, brothers, we ask you and appeal to you in the Lord Jesus that, just as you have received from us how it is necessary for you to live and to please God, just as indeed you are living, that you progress even more.
1 Thessalonians 4.1 NET
One Bible version paraphrased the last phrase thus: “live closer and closer to that ideal.” But the Bible never speaks in terms of some unreachable ideal. It affirms that we live in the fullness of Christ, the holiness of God, the communion of the Holy Spirit.
The ideal is our reality. And it becomes ever more real.
Father, thank you that we have already arrived and that we still navigate on the sea of your Son.
Hold this thought: In Christ the ideal is increasingly real.
