In my personal prayer today, I made this petition: “Prepare us, Lord, for greater works.” But in order to do greater works, something else must happen:

So if someone cleanses himself of such behavior, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart, useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
2 Tim 2.21

Praying the petition above is actually to pray another one: that God would work in our life purifying and sanctifying it more and more.

If we do not want God tinkering in our life — a process that can be painful and agonizing — then we shouldn’t pray the petition above.

For God does not allow just anyone to do his work. Only those who are prepared.
