There is no special merit before God for length of time as a Christian. But in the first century, it meant that those who were converted at the beginning were present for many of the events that marked the beginning of the church and of the Christian era. This would have brought a valuable perspective for the time. One of these converts was Mnason.
Some believers from Caesarea accompanied us, and they took us to the home of Mnason, a man originally from Cyprus and one of the early believers.
Acts 21.16 NLT
As one of the early believers, Mnason had accompanied the Christian movement from its beginning and had belonged to it. Moreover, he had demonstrated faithfulness during the persecution by the Jews and during the controversies about the law. He must have acquired a good experience during this long acquaintance with Christ.
Furthermore, Mnason was still a hospitable man, for he received Paul and his company in his house. He had not tired of promoting the cause of Christ. He had not become critical or skeptical after all those years.
Eternal God, thank you for the example of those who stay strong for so long. May I become one of them.
Hold this thought: The more time in Christ, the better.
