Translation of yesterday’s meditation for Portuguese speakers, for your edification.

But the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.
2 Samuel 24:24 ESV

In order to stop the plague in Israel, King David needed to raise an altar and make sacrifices on the threshing floor of Araunah. This Jebusite offered to give him the oxen, but David refused, knowing that the offerer needed to make a sacrifice of what belonged to him.

Some want a religion that costs nothing. A God who accepts what we want to give, when we want to give it, in the way we want to give it.

Although salvation is by grace, so that we cannot buy redemption, God still requires of us all our heart and all our dedication.

What do you think?
