Today’s youth sprinkle their speech freely with superlatives like “awesome” and “amazing.” I’m not sure if that’s good or bad, a sign of sensitivity to the powerful manifestation of God in the world or an impoverished vocabulary among a generation bereft of real education. You be the judge.
One thing, however, that is truly amazing is to consider that Christ not only took us from a state of complete estrangement from God to one of fellowship and intimacy, but he also included us in the workings of the divine project to save mankind eternally.
How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! (Hebrews 9:14 NIV).
The New Life Version translates the last phrase this way, “Now you can work for the living God.” We who had been working against him are now put to the task of cooperating with him.
What a wonder, Lord Almighty, to know that your work is ours, for eternal results! May you be praised among all!
Hold this thought: To work with God leaves saints amazed!/ By our great task, let God be praised!
