Light or darkness

I write a Portuguese-language devotional thrice weekly. Here’s my translation of today’s meditation.

Make sure that the light you think you have is not really darkness.
Luke 11:35 NLT

Jesus often spoke enigmatically, so that we would meditate well on what he said. Today’s verse is one of these sayings. [NLT brings out the sense Jesus was getting at.]

Light is darkness when we don’t understand the Lord nor his project for life.

We think we are living the truth and the right, when actually we’re contributing daily to falsehood and to evil.

The Jews of Jesus’ time thought they were living to please God, but they deceived themselves in their rejection of the Messiah sent by the Lord.

In order that our light be true light, we must be free from “selfish prejudice” (JB).

How to check if my light is really light? By listening and welcoming every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

What do you think?
