Charles Hood mentioned on the church-of-Christ Yahoo group that he is reading through Earl West’s three volumes, Search for the Ancient Order. These books record the history of the restoration movement in the US. Charles shared this quote from vol. 2, which I thought worthy to repeat:

“The history of the restoration movement shows that the less devotion men have to Christ the more they stand in need of human organizations.”

When men are devoted to Christ, they know the fullness of the Spirit’s resources within and through the church of God and thus feel no need to invent alternate ways of working.
