Is Your Heart Strong in God?

I was reading Joseph Chase’s blog, and came across the old hymn of invitation to the sinner, “Is thy heart right with God?“, both words and music written in 1899 by Elisha A. Hoffman.

With the tune in my head, I wrote this for the Christian.

At first, I varied the second and last lines of the stanzas, but it didn’t feel right, especially with the first line of the chorus repeating one of those, so I went back to the original pattern.

IS YOUR HEART STRONG IN GOD?

by J. Randal Matheny

Have you laid down your old self at Christ’s feet?
Is your heart strong in God?
Have you made God’s will your drink and your meat?
Is your heart strong in God?

REFRAIN:

Is your heart strong in God,
Under his guiding rod,
With the Lord walking,
Hearing him talking,
Living each day for God?

Have you put on righteous clothes as a saint?
Is your heart strong in God?
Do you find strength in the Lord when you’re faint?
Is your heart strong in God?

Have you surrendered to Him all your sin?
Is your heart strong in God?
Do you give rein to the Spirit within?
Is your heart strong in God?
