Latest news: my book goes to prison! Details below …

I’ve been in the U.S. now for almost two weeks. Not quite halfway through my trip here. I came, again, seeking to replace funds that we’ll lose next month. 80% of our personal funds, to be exact, with only about 1/3 of that having been replaced.

So I’d like to talk to your congregation, your elders, your missions committee about partnering in the gospel. But enough of business.

The missionary retreat and mission forum, both held in Alabama, were great. I’ve been present for both of them since their inception, the retreat four years ago, the forum in its second year. More on those later. Photos from the first I have posted here.

Since I’ve had difficulty setting up appointments at churches, I’ve been dropping in unannounced on some. That’s worked to a degree, but only with those where I know some people.

I thought I must have been doing something wrong, since I wasn’t getting many results in the effort to set up appointments. People at the retreat told me others have reported the same difficulty.

Book sales have been going good in some places, not as well in others, overall, I’m pleased with the progress.

The book was nicer than I had expected. A relief. Writers bite their nails while a book is at the printer.

Sean Ashberry, of the Somers congregation, preached in a max-security prison today and told me earlier that he was sending a copy of my book to a study group there.

Speaking of writing, a commentary I wrote on Ephesians 1:15-23 was published recently on Daniel Haynes’s The Proclaimer.

Was in North Little Rock this past Sunday for a meeting with the Somers elders. Went very well. I’m grateful to have this congregation behind us.

Have been talking to The Wife on Skype. My salvation.

Oh, something she said: Wagner and Katia may be returning to the Lord. We studied with them, I baptized and married them, several years ago, then they fell away. Pray their show of interest may result in repentance.

  1. Randal,

Thanks for the update. It is full of good news! Your book going to a prison study group, the possible return of Wagner and Katia, our Father is definitely doing some weaving thru you and yours! I think that is an excellent idea, just showing up at some congregations! I can’t believe you thought it was “you” when it came to trying to fund-raise, it is hard everywhere. The economy is in a terrible state and people are having to pay more than quadruple for some parts of life. You are in my prayers.

  2. Well, I haven’t done this in such an intensive way for many years, so I figured my old/new approach wasn’t getting the job done.

Please do pray for Wagner and Katia. They’re a young couple and I dearly love them.

What do you think?
