Religion turned into market, appealing to the lowest passions. People look for churches that allow them to continue in sin or that feed their greed. These churches are not of God and do not lead to salvation.
And when you heard the word of truth (the gospel of your salvation) — when you believed in Christ — you were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 1.13 NET
At the center of God’s project are a message and an action. The message possesses the character of truth. The action possesses the quality of salvation.
There are many religious messages, but only one is true.
False preachers make many promises about what God will do, but what he really does is bring forgiveness of sins, verse 7.
In the center of it all is Christ, verse 10.
Who secures in us this message and this divine action is the Holy Spirit.
As far as our part is concerned, God applies all this to us when we hear and believe. Here, faith represents the entire human response to the offering of God’s grace.
All this happens in the realm of God’s church, verses 22-23, in which faith and love are exercised, verse 15.
Our participation in this divine grace results in the praise of his glory.
I hear and believe, Father of word and action. I follow the Lord Jesus and praise your name. Work in me, be present in our midst, so that the true message may continue in the world.
Hold this thought: The blessed gospel saves from sin, / The Holy Spirit works within.
