In the midst of agony, the vision of what can be compels us to make our appeal to God, who alone can change our status.

May all those who seek you be happy and rejoice in you!
May those who love to experience your deliverance say continually, “May God be praised!”
I am oppressed and needy!
O God, hurry to me!
You are my helper and my deliverer!
O LORD, do not delay!
Psalm 70.4-5 NET

NET Bible translates the superscription as “written to get God’s attention.” God has certainly got David’s attention.

God gets our attention, too, when life dissolves into an insolvable crisis.

Then we catch a vision of the state of being that he intends for us, happy and rejoicing in the search for God.

All other searches leave us oppressed and needy.
