Reverence

We use superlatives for everything. Used to, things were “cool;” now they’re “awesome.” But when everything is awesome, nothing is.

So since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us give thanks, and through this let us offer worship pleasing to God in devotion and awe. For our God is indeed a devouring fire.
Hebrews 12:28-29 NET

To us God is the heavenly big buddy, rather than devouring fire. Our vision of him is closer to a stuffed teddy bear than the only God who inspires reverence and fear. We applaud the god of our making rather than fall before him as dead upon the ground.

We do not know the God who creates with a word, who plans since eternity and delivers us an unshakable kingdom, who destroys with the breath of his mouth, who requires an acceptable worship, who reveals himself as the living God accomplishing more than we can ask or imagine.

This is the God who desires to be known by his creatures.

  1. A good topic to bring up, thank you for it. One of the struggles I see in ministry today is trying to get people to understand the need for reverence and to express it in life and worship.

It would go so far in affecting how we live!

What do you think?
