baptismjesusI am writing to you, little children, that your sins have been forgiven because of his name. 1 John 2:12 NET

A self-proclaimed elite arose in the churches putting doubts in Christians’ minds about their salvation. They preached a secret knowledge, a spirituality restricted to a select group, an intimacy with God for just a few.

John writes to refocus the Christians’ attention on Jesus (“his name”). Our objective experience with the Lord, through faith and obedience, guarantees the certainty of our salvation. He promises forgiveness of sins when we follow what he commands.

No one can take that knowledge from us!

The above was translated from Portuguese, from the thrice-weekly “God with us” devotional.

If you can’t be sure of your salvation, work through this study to compare your experience with the objective commands of Scripture.
