Filled with Husks

So much unknown — how this disturbs the mind!
But what we know should cause us greater alarm:
Our sins have doomed us! Self has brought us harm!
To seek the Lord, the devil has made us blind.

And know I more — the human will is weak,
From choosing good with courage we quickly shrink,
Preferring mediocrity we sink
Within the world, afraid to act or speak.

So evil slowly feeds us, until we fill
Ourselves with husks, and die, of heaven starved,
Receiving justice’ weight, what we deserved —
Ignored, unproven, God’s good and perfect will.

What do you think?
