What distinguishes the people who belong to the God and Father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Is it not this, which was true also when he was known as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob?
For how will it be known then that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not by your going with us, so that we will be distinguished, I and your people, from all the people who are on the face of the earth?”
Exo 33.16 NET
What distinguishes God’s people from all others is that he goes with us. His Spirit dwells among, and within, us. The Father and the Son take up residence with the obedient, Jn 14.23.
This presence is not static, but dynamic. He goes with us. Just as he went with Moses and the people of Israel, he accompanies us as we fulfill his will, Mt 28.20. It is when we “do” the will of God that “the God of peace will be with” us, Php 4.8-9.
So God’s presence with us is both relational and situational. He is both present in loving fellowship and present to enable us to do his work.
His going with us gives us confidence in our position as his people and courage in our work for his glory.
Be with us, Lord,
