Those who want to know, can know, said Jesus.
“If anyone wants to do God’s will, he will know about my teaching, whether it is from God or whether I speak from my own authority.”
John 7.17 NET.
Jesus answers Jewish leaders who were amazed that the Lord could teach without formal rabbinic instruction. (They sound like some churches today.) Probably, their reaction was along the lines of, “How dare he!?” They were offended he would attempt to teach without a diploma from one of their schools. He went outside the rules, sidestepped the normal, approved process of religious training.
Those who seek for God find him. Wanting is not a case of wishing, but the overwhelming desire to discover that leads one to investigate.
Listen to Christ, and it will become evident that he always points back to the Father. He does not speak in order to win popularity or power, but to address the real need of man. Because he speaks only what he hears from the Father, his words carry full authority and bring eternal life, John 12.49-50.
When we do what Jesus did, ours words will accomplish what his did, because they will be the Father’s teaching.
Hang that on your wall.
