One day the skies split apart,
One day stopped the beating heart,
To blood the moon, no night or noon;
The day Christ came again.

One day the world caught fire,
One day fell tower and spire,
All works of earth, all bills of worth;
The day Christ came again.

One day the stars winked out,
One day resolved all doubt,
In godly light, from heavenly height;
The day Christ came again.

One day the oceans heaved,
One day none disbelieved,
All men confessed, from east to west;
The day Christ came again.

One day God judged our acts,
One day revealed the facts:
The heart’s intent, what suffering meant;
The day Christ came again.

  1. Wow. Without doubt, one of my top five of yours. Love the rhythm, and you captured the essence of the subject so fully. Bravo!

  2. Thanks, brother, high praise, for sure. The first stanza’s rhythm is a bit rough, but I also had a semi-tune in mind when writing. Nothing that could be transcribed, however.

What do you think?
