Catholics consider how to end prostitituion

Church’s Strategy to Help Women of the Street

Prostitution is a form of modern-day slavery.

The Catholic Church has produced a document at the first International Meeting of Pastoral Care for the Liberation of Women of the Street, held in Rome on June 20-21, at the initiative of the Pontifical Council for Migrants and Travelers.

The Lord’s church would also do well to consider this oft-forgotten group of people.

When we go to Guará on Wednesday nights, a small group of prostitutes and transvestites stand near the access ramp to the Via Dutra interstate highway between Rio and São Paulo). Our downtown area in SJCampos is overrun with prostitution as well, especially since it has been encouraged by the town council.

There are many reasons why women (and men) prostitute themselves. Those reasons bear study so that we may effectively proclaim the gospel to them.
