offer our bodiesLook in the mirror and you go immediately to those facial features or body parts you think keep you from having the perfect body. A nose too large. Ears that stick out. A weak chin. Slumped shoulders. Large hips. Something is too small, too large, too long, too short, too something.

However our physical features may displease us, our bodies are perfect offerings for the Lord.

When you and I entered the kingdom of God, he gave us our bodies as the first instrument of eternal good. Just as he did for his Son Jesus Christ.

That is why, when Christ came into the world, he said to God,
“You did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings.
But you have given me a body to offer.”
Hebrews 10:5 NLT

So the NLT Study Bible says, “God had prepared the psalmist to be obedient, ready to do God’s will; Hebrews now applies this idea to Christ. For Hebrews, the preparation of a human body, specifically Christ’s body, shows that God would use it as a superior sacrifice.”

And God has “prepared,” or determined, that our bodies shall also be offered in this world according to his will for our eternal salvation and for the salvation of many.

With that knowledge, passages like Romans 12:1ff take on new meaning. And the mirror takes on a different angle.

One thought on “A body to offer

  1. Very good article. My lesson Sunday was from 1 Peter 1:13-15. In verse 14 is the same idea as expressed in Romans 12:1-2. “A body hast thou prepared me,” (Hebrews 10:5). God prepared a body for us for the same purpose: to serve and glorify him. Thanks.
