Alone They Travel

Rocks in space tumble and hurtle, silent,
Faster than the speed of absent sound,
Alone they travel, suns and planets cold
In distant light devoid of heat or life.
What route they follow, what unseen forces bend
Their path, no signs or arrows point their way,
This mindless flight with nothing fore or aft,
Adrift in darkness, doomed to loneliness.
