God stands steadfast when man turns his back. Jesus does not abandon his mission when disciples walk away. The faithfulness of the Lord in the face of man’s rebellion, his patience with human stubbornness, his unfailing love toward all, incite us to praise and honor him. To God be the glory!
This afternoon we’ll host a few brothers and sisters here in our home, for two hours, focusing on three segments.
- A time of prayer together.
- Discussion of how to better use our small groups for evangelism.
- Opportunity questions, designed to help us see the good and positive in every situation.
For the latter two, I have two two-page handouts.
Pray it may contribute to growth in the efforts of us all here.
God’s first word to man was a blessing. God is good! He desires to do good. He is merciful and patient. He brings freedom, deliverance, and opportunity to all. Praise his name and exalt him in the highest terms!
God has not flung the universe out to function on its own through natural law. He continues to be involved in his creation. He feeds his creatures. He cycles the water through the clouds and rivers. He sends rain and sunshine upon the earth. God is active today. And he is active in converting the sinner and sanctifying the saint. Glory to the active God!
It is my belief that passions as strong as his are more likely to be countered by the unexpected force of poetry, which can ambush the human heart at any time.
This is not why I write poetry. I write it because I must. I always have, since a child.
But Steven Lloyd’s point is valid, that the form of poetry and the content of Scripture as Story may gain a better hearing today. Poetry may be that sneaky approach that surprises and captures the reader.
I pray my poetry might have that capacity and that effect.
Ye ole personal site has been quiet of late, much work on several Brazilian projects. But you may assuage your grief with my newest Corollaries segment here, highlighting items about the letter to the Philippians, among other subjects.
The Fellowship Room may get moved off the WordPress hosting service, to our own. Advantages are no ads, plus use of plugins (like a Bible highlighter). The big disadvantage is getting the Fellows moved over. Continue reading
God’s grace is generous. He gives freely. Our cup overflows. From him, in Christ, we have every spiritual blessing. His grace inspires generosity in us as well. By Jesus’ poverty we are made rich. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift and for his extraordinary grace!
The Lord is living, God is true and real,
Eternal King, who makes the whole earth feel
His anger and ire, before him nations flee
Who carve their idols in blind idolatry.
From wood and stone are gods of helpless form,
The sovereign Lord sends blessed sun and storm.
All things in heaven and earth one God has made —
Before the Creator bow and be afraid!
Read Jeremiah 10.
God called us to salvation through the gospel, that we might possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. He gives us means and motive to stand firm and to hold on to the apostolic traditions. Our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father loved us and by grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope. He encourages our hearts and strengthens us in every good thing we do or say. To him belong all glory and praise!
Based on 2 Thes 2.14-17.
God is in our frustration. We think that things ought to be different. We feel disturbed at injustice, however we may perceive it, and at wrong. Our paths and methods may be skewed, but the sense of justice attests to our being creatures made in God’s image. Let us seek his justice and his righteousness, and praise him for his wisdom!
