Give glory to God for sun, moon, and stars which mark for us times and seasons. We praise him for a sense of movement in life, for the forward progress of our souls, for the journey toward eternity. Exalt his foreverness — he who created us and inserted himself into our finite space and time. Blessed be the God who patiently inches us toward the day of final reckoning.
READ: “You have purified your souls by obeying the truth” 1 Pet 1.22.
THINK: Obeying the truth is the same as obeying the Lord Jesus, Mt 7.21. This truth is revealed in Scripture. Obedience purifies the soul from sin, which means redemption, Eph 1.7. Eternal salvation is for those who obey Jesus, Heb 5.9. Faith without obedience is useless for justification, Jas 2.14-26. Continue reading
Glory to God for pruning every branch that bears fruit, so that it will bear more. Praise him for discipline and correction in order that we might be holy. Give him glory for his great love that saves and sanctifies. May he be honored by our bearing much fruit.
READ: “Watch yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him. If he repents, forgive him.” Lk 17.3.
THINK: We can’t refuse to forgive a brother and expect God’s forgiveness, Mt 6.12-15. Forgiveness is more than not taking a brother’s error into account; it seeks his restoration through loving confrontation. He who loves rebukes; letting a brother continue in sin shows a lack of concern for his eternal destiny. Continue reading
There is no other God but the Lord! He forgives and transforms. He has mercy upon the fallen. He conquers our evil deeds. He hurls our sins into the depths of the sea. He is loyal to his chosen. Blessed be the God of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
READ: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of respect, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if something is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things” Php 4.8.
THINK: The worldly mind is pessimistic, thinks the worst, expects the bad to happen. The redeemed mind thinks on what is good, for it has as a reference God’s goodness in the present and his promise for the future. In Christ, God’s peace guards the mind, v. 7. Continue reading
Bless the Lord for his kindness to his people, for giving each one a place in the body of Christ, for the pleasant joy of belonging to his kingdom, for the hope of our eternal destination as we walk in his ways. We are full of the Lord’s blessing, there is no one like God, who rides through the sky to help, on the clouds of majesty. Praise him, followers of Christ, praise him, sun and moon, praise him, stars above! He is altogether worthy of praise!
READ: “Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God—what is good and well-pleasing and perfect” Rom 12.2.
THINK: We can change our lives. We do this by rejecting the world’s pressures, in order to transform the mind using the word of God. Everything starts in the mind. In this way, we see how God’s will is good. By this transformation we become living sacrifices for God, v. 1. Continue reading
The God who sent his Son to die deserves our highest praise. He gave his Son that we might live, lift up our voice to glorify his Name! Sing from the heart, sing out with joy, bless God for this great gift! Glory to the Lord! Glory in word and sacrifice of ourselves!
READ: “Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice—alive, holy, and pleasing to God—which is your reasonable service” Rm 12.1.
THINK: God’s goodness inspires us to offer our lives to him as a sacrifice. He can now do with us as he pleases. We belong totally to him. Different from dead animal sacrifices, we are live ones; we are aware of all we do, rationally. To be pleasing is to be a sacrifice that God accepts. Continue reading
