One sin leads to another

A single sin does not remain alone, but leads to another. And yet another. Like the Jewish religious leaders. Envy led to murder, which led in turn to the release of a murderous rebel.

But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release Barabbas instead.

Know that a sin, as small as it may seem, opens the door for still more iniquity to take control of a person.

Infidelity leads to lies and the destruction of a home. Or, in King David’s case, to murder.

Greed leads to hurting one’s neighbor and idolatry.

Addiction leads to theft and violence.

Be it one or many sins, they all lead to consequences: the destruction of relationships and separation from God, now and forever.

So what were you thinking about doing?

Father, keep me from leaving the security of your holiness. May I avoid the first step toward transgression. By your holy Son Jesus. Amen.
