One sin leads to another

Sin multiplies

A single sin does not remain alone, but leads to another. And yet another. Like the Jewish religious leaders. Envy led to murder, which led in turn to the release of a murderous rebel.

But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have him release Barabbas instead.
Mark 15:11 NET

Know that a sin, as small as it may seem, opens the door for still more iniquity to take control of a person.

Infidelity leads to lies and the destruction of a home. Or, in King David’s case, to murder.

Greed leads to hurting one’s neighbor and idolatry.

Addiction leads to theft and violence.

Be it one or many sins, they all lead to consequences: the destruction of relationships and separation from God, now and forever.

So what were you thinking about doing?

Father, keep me from leaving the security of your holiness. May I avoid the first step toward transgression. By your holy Son Jesus. Amen.

  1. Your prayer is so spot on. May we always remember to take the first step, with it being a step that leads to showing our love for God through our love for others, in an actionable way.

  2. Thanks, Steve, that step is certainly the one we need to take.

  3. So important to disapline my mind in its thoughts…for me it is dwelling on ungodly thoughts which lead to the action…meditate on God’s word every moment of everyday…takes lots of practice….

    • Hi, Rose, that’s where it all starts, isn’t it, in the mind? It does take full dedication for discipline. God bless you. Thanks for commenting.

      • I wrote a poem about that. Hope you don’t mind me sharing it?
