Ever notice that fanaticism is a reprehensible quality in everything except soccer? The fan is always excited about his team, in times of victory or defeat. He never misses a game and wears the uniform everywhere.
He gave himself for us to set us free from every kind of lawlessness and to purify for himself a people who are truly his, who are eager to do good.
Titus 2:14 NET
Such enthusiasm for the things of God is called zeal (NET, “eager”). It combines the warm and intense feelings with an assiduous activity for God’s work. (In the kingdom, one not only cheers, but plays.)
The good works are those which God defines as being good, and not by human ideas. The church belongs to the Lord, so it is he who directs it to do good.
The advantage that the Christian has over the soccer fan: His coach never has a losing team.
